School Council

The School Council supports the effective governance of our College and operates within the framework of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and Department of Education policies.

Working collaboratively with the Principal, the School Council provides advice, oversight, and community perspective to support strategic planning, accountability, and engagement.

The role of the School Council includes supporting the College through:

Strategic direction and planning, by contributing community perspectives to the College’s vision and priorities and providing input into the College Strategic Plan.
Resource and financial governance, by overseeing the College budget, supporting appropriate use of resources, and approving fundraising activities in line with policy requirements.
Facilities and operational oversight, by monitoring the maintenance and use of College buildings and grounds, including the consideration of after‑hours use, to support safe and effective College operations.
Community engagement and reporting, by strengthening connections with the College community, considering feedback, and supporting annual reporting on school performance and finances.
Student safety, wellbeing, and inclusion, by supporting policies and practices aligned with the Victorian Child Safe Minimum Standards.

Child Safety and Student Voice Commitment

The Whittlesea Secondary College School Council is committed to promoting a strong culture of child safety and wellbeing and ensuring that student voice is valued and reflected in governance discussions. Student leadership is represented on the Whittlesea Secondary College School Council through our College Captains, supporting meaningful student participation and reinforcing the rights, safety, and wellbeing of all students in alignment with the Victorian Child Safe Minimum Standards.
