Year 7 Girls Basketball

The Year 7 Girls Basketball team went out on the 14th of September to Mill Park Stadium to play against some tough competition. Although many girls had not played basketball outside of school they did exceedingly well against girls who played representative basketball.

The first game was against The Lakes Secondary College and was evenly matched. The girls went out very excited about their first game and quickly got the feel of playing together in a team. After some great shooting by Zoe Groves and Jessie Plant the girls were run away winners 22 to 5.

Going into the next game the girls were excited from their win, but came up against Hazel Glen College who provided a representative team and fierce competition. Although the girls went down by 49 points they played very well and left the courts with a smile and their heads held high.

Going into the last round the girls were still excited to play basketball and after a few lollies, they were revving to go. Coming up against Lalor Secondary College provided plenty of challenge as they had a strong offensive game. The girls played good defence and although they had plenty of scoring opportunities, they were not able to convert, going down by 28 points in an otherwise close game.

The girls went through to finals and played for 5th position against Lalor North Secondary College. The girls were evenly matched and by the end of the first half we were pulling away. With Tiana Markey assisting in the coaching, the girls pulled together and through fantastic team work every girl in the team scored a goal and came out on top 44 to 6, coming away with 5th place for the day.

This was a great effort put in by the girls who all displayed great sportsmanship, teamwork and determination. Although we had 5th place on the day, all the girls came away winners, with this being many of the girls' first competitive game outside of school. To all of the girls, well done!
