Senior Boys Football

Our Senior Boys Football team made an extraordinary feat in making the Regional Finals, taking place in Northcote against some formidable competition.

Our side of the fixture was always going to be a tough one – playing against some very strong football schools in Diamond Valley, Northcote and Gladstone Park.

Game 1 against Diamond Valley was a close affair. Kai Atwell kicked the opening goal within minutes of the first bounce to give Whittlesea confidence early in the game. The game was an arm wrestle, with Diamond Valley having a key forward who has been playing local Senior Football.  This proved to be the difference, our defence being gallant but no match for him in the air. Diamond Valley took out the match by 3 goals.

Game 2 against Gladstone Park looked to be our best chance for the day. In what was a shootout, we had multiple scorers in Rye Johnson and Jordan Buckingham who were causing headaches up forward for Gladstone Park. This game went right down to the wire, with Whittlesea running out victors by 2 points.

Game 3 was a simple equation – beat Northcote or our quest for 2017 was over. Northcote however proved to be a class above, having outstanding footballers right across the field and ran out victors by a big margin. Northcote eventually took out the competition for the day.

Thank you to our class of 2017 who have represented the College over a brilliant six years.  We have some very talented footballers that we will miss.
