A First Class Display

Intermediate Girls Cricket Sports Report

Our Year 9 Girls were the first team to reach the Northern Metropolitan Round in 2017 for Intermediate Cricket. A very excited team ventured out to Donath Reserve to take on a tough pool to be named the best in our Region.

Out of our three games, we were victorious in our first against Montmorency, who were virtually non-existent against our consistent bowling and sharp fielding.

With a win on the board we were confident going into game number two against regional rivals Gladstone Park. However, Gladstone proved too strong for us. Chasing down a score of 68, we lost early wickets to fall for a disappointing 5/13 at one stage. Makaela Smillie and Keily Walker stemmed the bleeding on the wickets but we fell well short of the required runs.

Our final game was a dead rubber against Thornbury Darebin, where both schools showed magnificent sportsmanship and skill, and were able to have a fun and competitive hit out in fantastic autumn weather. While we were unfortunately beaten in that game, the girls from both schools got a lot out of the game and the competition as a whole.

Congratulations to our girls who represented the College in a first class display. As a team fully of Year 9s playing underage, we will be better prepared and more experienced come 2018.
