Earn and Learn

As you know, our school has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. The program has now finished for this year and we wish to thank everyone who supported the school. We're now at the important stage of the program where the Sticker Sheets are collected and lodged as our Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week, please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn stickers you may have.

To celebrate National Recycling Week, 9-15th November 2015, the City of Whittlesea and Visy Recycling are working together to promote recycling and correct recycling practices. Year 7-9 students are invited to participate in a fun and creative student photo competition using the following theme:

Do you recycle at home or at school?

Show us how it’s done and what recycling means to you!

Indigenous inspired Art

Over the year all of our Year 7 students complete a term of Art/Visual Communication Design. Throughout this time we try to develop students' skills and encourage them to think creatively with their work. Students complete drawing tasks, painting, ceramics and mixed media. This year we have also seen the successful introduction of 'Art Club', a group of students that form on a Wednesday at lunch time to complete extra-curricular art tasks. We have seen many talented students are excited to see them mature as young artists over the coming years.

Bonjour!

On the 7th September, after 2 years in the planning, a group of 28 students ranging from Year 7-12 and four staff travelled to Paris and the Western Front for an adventure of a life time.

First stop – the Eiffel Tower and a cruise of the river Seine.

Each day was spent visiting well known sites, such as the Louvre, the Chateau Versailles and averaging 14km’s of walking a day along with navigating the very efficient “metro” train system.

Soccer Match

Late last term some of the Year 11 and 12 students took on the challenge of facing several teachers in a series of soccer matches. The staff showed their superior skills and beat the Year 12 team 4 goals to 1, however faced much stronger opponents in the Year 11 team. Once again the staff team managed to rise to the challenge, defeating the Year 11 team 3 goals to 2.

The games were arranged as a part of Tikka Amos' VCAL Project.

Great effort by all the staff and students for particpating.

Science

Our Year 11 Science classes were host scientists on Tuesday 15 September as a part of Kids Teaching Kids week. Grades 1 and 2 from Whittlesea Primary School came into the College throughout the day to have a hands-on Science discovery session.

Students set up a round robin of experiments in the three different Year 11 Science Classes (Chemistry, Physics and Biology). What a great experience for both the Year 11 students and primary school students.

Psychology Excursion

Students from both Year 12 Psychology classes attended an excursion to La Trobe University to take part in a Stress workshop recently.

Ms Greer was the initial test subject being hooked up to many different physiological devices to assess her stress response. Students then formed pairs and set about a number of different tasks that would create a stressful situation to record their bodies' reaction to the situations.

Little Einstein's Day

Selected Year 11 students joined Ms Greer and Mr Joseph at Laurimar Primary School's 'Little Einstein’s Day'. Our students set up a round robin of experiments and had eight classes come throughout the day to perform the different experiments they had organised.

Here is some lovely feedback from the organizer of the day:

Whittlesea Secondary College Basketball
